Meet the milliner
I began my millinery journey in 2011 when I attended my first millinery course and suffice to say, I have been passionate about the trade ever since. As I am a full time primary school teacher, I spend most of my holiday time designing hats and developing my millinery skills through face to face and online learning from milliners all over the world.
Arts and crafts have always been part of my life whether knitting, sewing or painting. I grew up in a home where there was a great appreciation of the arts.
Having a keen interest in fashion and style also, I love to see a whole outfit come together and there is nothing like a headpiece to give your occasion outfit the finishing touch.
“You must be the change you want to see in the world”. (Mathatma Gandhi)
The recent pandemic and climate change has highlighted the need for all of us that we need to move towards a more sustainable lifestyle. I have been trying to use more sustainable fabrics, recycled and biodegradable materials in my designs.
As we are all at different stages on our journey to a greener lifestyle, I believe this quote by Mathatma Gandhi is a great reminder that we all need to do our part.
This green and cream dior style hat is made from buntal straw, a natural fiber extracted from buri palms and woven into mats in the Phillippines. It is one of my favourite materials to work with. I have used some vintage beads for embellishment.
Hats at the Races
My headpieces have featured in many Best Dressed Finals at race meetings around Ireland, Best Dressed Person at the Curragh 2019, Best Hat at Galway Races 2018, Most Iconic Lady Listowel 2018, and many top tens at various meetings.
Whether you prefer a dramatic or classic look, you may find some inspiration from my collections.

In February 2021, MOD Designs collaborated with Layla M. AlSalmi of @simplylayla for a photo shoot of her new 2021 collection, creating a piece that was contemporary, yet simple in style, to suit her beautiful designs.
It was a pleasure to collaborate with the talented @m.o.d._designs
